Robyn Baker
Step into Robyn Baker’s studio, where painting, poetry and storytelling come together in a world of memorable characters.
A North Queensland artist, Robyn draws on family stories, her childhood in Western Queensland, travel and imagination. Her paintings weave together remembered lives and invented adventures, often featuring expressive figures and dancers.
In this film for the PROCESS exhibition at CRATE59, Robyn introduces the painting that begins her new illustrated poetry book, Maud Faces Life. Inspired partly by a family member, Maud’s story opens a conversation about how characters emerge and develop through her work.
Robyn also shares her process of painting out and painting over, comparing the layers beneath a finished image to the layers of a life. It’s a warm, personal glimpse into an artist’s imagination—and the stories that keep her creating.
