HANNAH PARKER

Meet Hannah Parker, a Cairns-based visual artist whose work brings words, materials and stories together.

In this film for the PROCESS exhibition at CRATE59, Hannah shares the making of Diaspora, a collaboration with Wollongong artist Lucia Parrella. Beginning with Hannah’s written reflections on the Australian landscape, life and death, the work developed through an exchange of letterpress-printed rice paper sent back and forth between the two artists.

Hannah gradually wove the paper into delicate forms resembling baskets, nests or sea anemones. Strips of text trail from their edges, offering fragments of stories about land and the movement of people.

It’s an intimate glimpse into a process shaped by collaboration, distance and discovery, where writing becomes something sculptural—and viewers are invited to find their own connections.
