Join Jenny Valmadre in her studio for a close look at a practice shaped by more than 30 years of making, experimenting and responding to materials.

Working primarily in ceramics and encaustic—painting with wax—Jenny brings a sculptor’s approach to surface, texture and form. She shares how these two processes complement each other, from the careful testing and slow transformation of clay to the immediacy of wax that can be carved, layered and reworked as soon as it cools.

In this film for the PROCESS exhibition at CRATE59, Jenny discusses 'A different Harvest' and 'Fruit of the Forest', inspired by the fruit and tangled vines surrounding her rainforest home. A hands-on demonstration reveals how she cuts into wax, fills the marks with colour and scrapes back the surface to uncover her drawings.
