Declan Delargy

Meet Declan Delargy, an artist whose paintings imagine the brain’s inner worlds through flowing forms, fine lines and layered textures.

With a background in printmaking and a longstanding connection to CRATE59, Declan brings a love of painting and drawing to his work. In this film for the PROCESS exhibition, he shares the making of a piece that revisits an earlier approach to his practice.

Beginning with a scraped, textured background, Declan carefully prepares diluted acrylic paint to create fluid, marbled shapes. Once dry, these forms gain delicate pen-and-ink tendrils inspired by neurons, alongside subtle touches of silver and collage that blend into the surface.

It’s a close look at the balance between planning and the behaviour of paint—and how small details help bring an imagined world to life.
