JAKE FINCHAM

Meet Jake Fincham, a Cairns-born artist whose paintings carry the energy of skate culture, street art and punk rock.

In this film for the PROCESS exhibition at CRATE59, Jake traces his creative journey from skate photography and clothing to music videos, graffiti and painting. Along the way, friendships and creative communities in Cairns and Brisbane helped shape his approach.

Jake takes us through a deeply personal mixed-media work, showing how charcoal sketches develop through layers of spray paint, acrylics, paint pens and pastels. Scratches, drips and partly hidden words build a surface that preserves the roughness and spontaneity he loves about street art.

At the heart of his process is emotion: an idea might begin as a poem, a phrase or a quick scribble before finding its way onto canvas. It’s an honest look at an artist who embraces imperfection and uses painting to express what matters to him.
